Superintendent's
Message

Welcome to the new school year!  2010 – 2011 promises to be an exciting school year for Dodgeland, filled with learning opportunities and programs designed to challenge each student.  Building upon the initiatives we began last year, the staff and administration are committed to meeting the needs of each child.

Response to Intervention.  During the 2009-2010 school year, the elementary staff began working on a new system for responding to student needs.  This system is called Response to Intervention and is a multi-tiered approach to help struggling learners.  Students’ progress is closely monitored at each stage of intervention to determine the need for further research-based instruction and/or intervention in general education, in special education, or both.  Through Response to Intervention, we will be focused on delivering an effective education and intervention programs for each elementary student at Dodgeland.

Expert 21. Dodgeland is the first middle school in Wisconsin to acquire Expert 21, an inquiry-based learning program.  This middle school program helps students build and question understanding of the world in which they live, learn and work.  Designed to accelerate students in reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, Expert 21 contains content that students want to read because it is relevant and contemporary.  Our Dodgeland Middle School students will receive explicit instruction in and application of 21st century skills that they will use in college, career and life.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).  We will initiate at both the High School and the Middle School a character education program called Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).  PBIS has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the only character education program that has “positive effects” in both academic and behavioral outcomes.  The program is designed to maximize each student’s academic performance while at the same time minimizing problem behaviors.

New Leadership.  I am pleased to introduce Dodgeland’s new Middle School/High School Principal, Mrs. Marcia Modaff, and new Dean of Students, Mrs. Melinda Kamrath.  Mrs. Modaff and Mrs. Kamrath have a combined 32 years of service here at Dodgeland.  Working alongside Mrs. Jessica Johnson, our Elementary School Principal, the administrative team is excited about serving all Dodgeland students.  We are fortunate to have such a talented, dedicated team of leaders here at Dodgeland.

Build Your Own Curriculum.  Beginning last winter, our staff development focused on curriculum work.  Utilizing a great new curriculum tool called Build Your Own Curriculum, teachers organized the content of their courses, and this work has continued over the summer.  I know the staff is excited about the upcoming school year. Everything we do here at Dodgeland is focused on learning.
