Dodgeland offers a variety of ways for Middle and High School students to be involved with the arts. Our current offerings involving the Arts include: Band, Chorus, Musicals, and Visual Arts Classic Team.
Please reach out to the advisor of a club or group for additional information and how to join.
All clubs and groups coordinated through the school are subject to the Dodgeland Middle/High School Code of Conduct, which may be found on our Handbooks page.
Band - EL, MS, HS
The Dodgeland School District has a strong commitment to music education for all students. Currently, the district has four bands: 5th Grade Band, 6th Grade Band, 7th/8th Grade Band, and the High School Band. The music program at Dodgeland hosts two regular concerts per year, our annual Band-O-Rama event, and the opportunity to participate in district and state Solo & Ensemble competitions.
Students in the High School Band are also part of the Trojan Marching Band and Pep Band. The Trojan Marching Band marches in the Homecoming Parade and Memorial Day Parade, as well as performs regularly for home athletic events such as football and basketball games. Additional band offerings for high school students include Trojan Jazz Band and Advanced Musicianship.
High school band and choir students also have the special opportunity to participate in an out-of-state trip that takes place every two years. In the past few years, the band and choir has traveled to St. Louis, Minneapolis, and Memphis!

Choral Music - MS, HS
At Dodgeland, we introduce students to choir in fifth grade. As students grow and develop as musicians, they can elect to be in Middle School Choir which is split into two sections: sixth grade and a combined 7th/8th grade choir. At the High School level, there are two distinct choirs that meet every other day. Canto Bello is a more traditional choir where motivated students further their fundamental music skills. Canto Bello sings a variety of music, including but not limited to: standard choral literature, foreign language/world music, a cappella works, and unique arrangements of popular music. The other High School choir (Vox) is primarily focused on popular music spanning many decades. Learning is done mostly by rote (by ear) in a more relaxed setting. In addition to singing the music, students learn the context in which the music was written. An added bonus for participating in High School music ensembles is the biennial Music Department trip. Past destinations include Minneapolis and St. Louis.

Musicals - MS, HS
Every fall, the Dodgeland School District produces a musical production. The musical is open to students in grades 7-12. Students rehearse after school learning lines, blocking, and choreography which culminates in a weekend of public performances (typically the second weekend in November). There are many opportunities to get involved whether it is acting on stage or assisting with the technical elements or backstage. High School students also have the opportunity to enroll in the course "On Stage and Behind the Scenes" where they serve as the production crew for the musical, helping to design the sets, costumes, and publicity while learning about the various aspects of theatre. Past productions include: Shout! The Mod Musical, Annie, and Weird (an original musical premiered at Dodgeland).

Visual Arts Classic Team - HS
The Visual Arts Classic is part of a competition sponsored by the Wisconsin Art Education Association that Dodgeland has participated in for over 15 year. This competition is a yearly event that involves creating art, studying art history, writing about art, and also performing. Each year there is a specific topic or theme that students address through their art projects. Some themes from previous years include; Art and Humor, Art in Wisconsin, Women in the Arts, Art and Science, and Fantasy in the Arts.
The team is composed of 12 students that create art related to the specific prompts and materials. There are different media choices and prompts that the students can choose from. Drawing, painting, sculpture, fiber arts, photography, video, and ceramics are some of the options for students. Once students pick their prompts, work begins on their projects. These long-term projects are brought to the regional competition in February. While at regionals, the students also compete in the Art History Quiz Bowl and Critical Thinking skits. If the students or team receive first place in any of the activities, they move on to state, which is held in March.
Dodgeland teams have been very successful in the Visual Arts Classic with many trophies to show for it. The case is getting too small for all the hardware! The students so love doing the VAC that when school starts in the fall they are already asking when the new prompts are in so they can begin working. The Dodgeland Art department is so appreciative of all the support received from the administration and community.
