  • 2014 - 2015 Dodgeland/John Deere Partnership
This year Dodgeland's Welding II class developed a partnership with John Deere with the goal of creating a Gator themed grill modeled after John Deere's HPX Gator. Students had to design, model, fabricate, and manufacture the entire project from scratch. Students had to research tolerable paint temperatures, how to run plumbing for propane lines, and weight tolerances. Students also had to present their ideas to John Deere representatives and work with skilled employees throughout the 7-month project. John Deere made several visits to the school and students also traveled to all of John Deere's manufacturing facilities in the area. John Deere provided the box, suspension, and tires for the Gator and the rest was fabricated by hand in the school's welding facility. The grill is heated by propane and can reach temperatures of 600 degrees within 10 minutes. Unique features of the grill include a hidden table for grilling condiments and a custom designed grill grate (provided by Apache Stainless). Thank you to team at John Deere Horicon Works for lending their time and resources to the project. A special thanks to Brian Pulford, Dan Miller, Tony Tesch, and Kyle DeVries for offering their expertise and manufacturing knowledge to our students. Congratulations on a job well done and we look forward to continuing our partnership for years to come!
