College Timeline for High School Juniors
Quick Access: November, December, January-May
September-October
- Work hard in all classes. College admissions decisions are made, in part, based on your grades from the first three years of high school.
- Job shadow a career that you are interested in exploring. A job shadow is a great way to help refine, or confirm, your interest in a particular career. COVID-19 has significantly limited Dodgeland High School’s ability to place students in job shadow experiences. Virtual job shadow experiences may be possible. Contact High School Counselor, Mrs. Buss, to set up a job shadow experience. Job shadows can be scheduled for anytime during the school year.
- Attend Moraine Park's Discover Moraine Park event. Discover Moraine Park is an opportunity to tour the campus, meet with program instructors and students, complete and submit an application and receive an application fee waiver for attending ($30.00 value). Register for Discover Moraine Park on the Moraine Park Technical College website.

December
- Consider taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). The ASVAB is the most widely used "career interest" tool in the world. The ASVAB provides valuable information on vocational aptitudes and career interest for undecided students. It is also the assessment used to determine your eligibility for specific military occupations. You can take the ASVAB and have your results interpreted without releasing them to recruiters. The ASVAB will be offered at Dodgeland High School at a date to be determined in December. The ASVAB is free and available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

January-February-March-April-May
- Make your course selections for senior year based on your future goals. Choose rigorous courses that challenge you and help prepare you for education beyond high school. Four year and two year colleges may weigh admissions decisions based on the rigor of your senior year course schedule. If you were not successful in a high school course, talk with your school counselor to check credits.
- Prepare for and take the ACT. Dodgeland High School juniors will take the ACT on March 7, 2023. Due to the global pandemic, many colleges are “test optional” for admissions. Even when ACT scores are not required for admission to college, they may still be important for course placement and scholarship consideration. Technical Colleges will still require a specific ACT score.
- If you are in Advanced Placement(AP) classes, prepare for the AP Exam associated with the course. All students at Dodgeland High School participating in an AP course, will take the course’s AP exam at no cost.
- Retake the ACT if you wish to improve your score. Students should register online. Students experiencing financial hardship or receiving free or reduced lunch should see their school counselor for a fee waiver.
- Plan to visit as many of your "top choice" colleges as possible. Given the situation with COVID-19, campus visits may be limited. Junior year is a great time for college visits. Make appointments for campus tours. If possible, visit on weekdays and ask for permission to sit in on a few classes. Check out the list of UW System preview days and campus tours. Moraine Park Technical College offers very similiar options to tour their campus.
